We partner with women to create a healthy planet for all life.

Women’s inclusion and leadership are essential to solving the environmental crisis.

Research shows that including women in conservation and natural resource governance results in better, more durable outcomes for nature and people.

Yet, too often women are left out of environmental decision making. Only 0.2% of global environmental funding goes to women-led initiatives on the ground.

That’s why Planet Women provides low-barrier grants to organizations that are protecting nature and improving gender equity in the Andes-Amazon, Africa, and the American West. We’re also building a stronger environmental movement through unique leadership programs and events.

Strategy: Protect Nature & Support Communities

Planet Women restores and protects forests and rivers that are critical to a healthy planet across three geographic areas: Africa, the Amazon, and the American West. We invest in projects that are led by local women in the communities most affected by environmental degradation.

In 2023, Planet Women granted over half a million dollars to 20 partner organizations to grow women’s leadership, amplify Indigenous and youth voices, and support biodiversity.

While each project is local to a region and community need, they all work toward increased women’s leadership and gender equity; improved forest, water and biodiversity health; and climate resilience.

Strategy: Transform the Culture of Conservation

Planet Women is building a stronger environmental movement through cross-pollination and collective learning.

Our team advises organizations on why and how to integrate gender into conservation field projects for better outcomes. We also embody and teach our leadership model, which centers women and marginalized communities; relies on power sharing; and balances scientific knowledge with intuitive wisdom.

Planet Women offers two leadership programs:

THE REGENERATIVE LEADERSHIP PROJECT helps environmental professionals align their story, values, and commitment to anti-oppression for deeper impact as leaders.

WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP CIRCLE brings together women leaders working on reforestation in Africa for collective learning and peer support.

"Since partnering with Planet Women, we have been able to serve more than 6x as many people as previous years.

Every person we serve creates the potential for another girl to finish school, a mother to provide basic needs for her family, or a woman to pursue a career in conservation—all while protecting some of the world's most diverse ecosystems."
