Jacqueline is an interdisciplinary environmental scientist who is interested in examining the linkages between biodiversity conservation, cultural heritage and multi-use landscapes and their impact on livelihoods. She has a PhD in Environmental and Geographical Science, and her research entailed a comprehensive study on integrated approaches for developing nature-based tourism in the Mt Elgon ecosystem, Kenya. Jacqueline is the founder and CEO of El-Koony Trust, a nonprofit organization based in Kenya dedicated to biodiversity conservation, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihood enhancement, through conducting scientific research and vocational training courses. El-Koony Trust primarily focuses their efforts on the Mount Elgon region, located in Western Kenya. Central to their community engagement efforts, is the partnerships and collaborations they have intentionally developed, to work with girls and women managing and stewarding their respective landscape.
