Meg Caldwell

Meg’s academic and philanthropic work integrates science and social equity to advance effective ocean and coastal ecosystem governance and implementation. She retired from the Packard Foundation in February 2025. There she spearheaded the Foundation’s strategy for ocean conservation and ocean-based climate solutions, worked with its General Counsel to develop the Foundation’s first human rights policy, and collaborated with human rights experts globally to develop the United Nations Environment Programme Core Human Rights Principles for Private Conservation Organizations and Funders.

Prior to joining Packard in 2015, Meg directed Stanford University’s Environment Natural Resources Law & Policy program for over 21 years and the Center for Ocean Solutions since its founding in 2008. Meg serves on the boards of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Planet Women.
